Career Overview
The MedCerts programs are designed for students who want to enter the business world as a knowledgeable healthcare industry employee. Students will be able to obtain the skills necessary to provide excellent administrative support in a pharmacy or medical office environment. Students will gain the knowledge of various medical terminologies and basic computer skills to be proficient in many medical and healthcare related fields.
Course Descriptions
HI-1011 Medical Office Procedures & Administration helps students master skills needed in the front office of a physician’s practice. In this module there are units with specific information that covers the skill set and knowledge required to fulfill a position as a Medical Administrative Assistant. This module provides comprehensive coverage of the practical, real-world medical office skills students need to thrive in any healthcare environment.
HI-1012 Automated Medical Office This innovative course familiarizes students with both general computer applications and medical office management software, giving them the confidence and skills to succeed as a medical office assistant. All aspects of computerized administrative and financial functions in the medical office are addressed--from new patient entry to scheduling, billing, and insurance claims processing. As each concept builds on earlier conversations, the student's knowledge is solidified through module-opening objectives and vocabulary, step-by-step procedures, exercises, special hints, summaries, and several assessment exercises.
HI-1013 Microsoft Office Specialist This course enables you to master everything from the very basic office functions to the typical features in Microsoft Office 2007 Word & Excel the industry standard business applications. This course will take you step-by-step through your mastery of Office 2007.
HI-1014 Anatomy and Physiology with Medical Terminology This market-leading course text helps students understand and learn complex medical terms by dividing them into their component parts, clearly explaining the meanings of these terms in the context of how the body works in health and disease. Terminology and complex medical processes are described in an easy-to-understand manner that is readily accessible to learners of all levels. The course brings medical terms to life covering the body systems, specific key areas of health care, such as cancer, psychiatry, anatomy and physiology.
HI-1015 Insurance Billing & Coding Essentials helps users excel at all aspects of insurance billing: submitting, tracing, appealing, and transmitting claims. Its comprehensive coverage also includes important information on diagnostic coding, procedural coding, office and insurance collection strategies, Medicare, Managed Care, and more. It also covers recent changes in the industry - including the addition of special HIPAA Compliance that helps users comply with important governmental privacy regulations.
HI-1017 Pharmacy Technician Principles and Practices is comprised of two units designed to train students in medication order processing, inventories, compounding and packaging, use of a prescription balance, the HIPAA privacy act and computers. Upon completion of the course, students will have knowledge and skills in the areas of drug regulation and control, formulation, pharmaceutical terminology, and units of measurement.
HI-1018 Electronic Health Records module provides students with the skills and expertise needed for the development and maintenance of electronic health records in both facility and private practice environments. Ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements will be covered along with training in hands-on EHR software, HIPAA compliance, confidentiality and security, appointment scheduling, the administrative and reimbursement usage of the EHR, and much more.
Certification Information
Certification is offered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) The National Healthcareer Association (NHA) established in 1989 has become the largest organization with over 200,000 allied healthcare professionals certified. The NHA is currently working with over 1300 educational institutions throughout the country in curriculum development, competency testing, and preparation for national certification exams.

- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) - issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS) - issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) - issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Microsoft Office Specialist Word & Excel (MOS 2007) - issued by Microsoft
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) was established in 1995 and is governed by five organizations: the American Pharmacists Association; the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists; the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists; the Michigan Pharmacists Association; and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. It is important that there be a single national standard for pharmacy technician certification that is recognized and supported by the profession. PTCB has served this role since it was established in 1995.
The National Healthcareer Association (NHA) was established in 1989, and has issued over 200,000 certifications to Allied Healthcare professionals. Those who pass the exam will be recognized as a Nationally Certified Allied Healthcare professional.
